From a love of textiles to a home atelier in Puerto Rico

Claro Casa began in 2000 with a simple idea: to bring together exceptional European textiles and the tradition of making things beautifully by hand. Our founder, Sonia I. Román, an engineer by profession, discovered her passion for textiles while traveling throughout Europe for work. She was drawn not only to their beauty, but to the world behind them — the natural fibers, the textures, the colors, and the generations of craftsmanship woven into each collection. Those travels inspired a new path. Sonia envisioned a home atelier in Puerto Rico where extraordinary materials could become pieces made with purpose: thoughtfully designed, carefully crafted, and created for the spaces they would inhabit.

Claro Casa was born from that vision.

Brought in from Europe, one collection at a time

Casadeco, Caselio, Eijffinger, Hohenberger and Masureel are not names most people in Puerto Rico grew up with. They are houses that have been printing wallcoverings for decades, and the difference shows in the material rather than the photograph. We do not stock everything they make. We choose what suits the light here, the humidity here and the way houses are built here, which is a narrower list than a catalogue would suggest.

Twenty-five years at the sewing table

More than twenty-five years later, making remains at the heart of who we are. Our atelier is based in the mountains of San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, where our team of skilled artisans cuts, sews, upholsters, and finishes each piece by hand. From custom window treatments and bedding to cushions, upholstered furniture, and pieces for residential, hospitality, and marine interiors, every project passes through the hands of people who understand their craft. Choosing to manufacture locally is an essential part of our story. By building our atelier in a rural community, we create opportunities for skilled work while helping preserve the knowledge and traditions of textile fabrication for future generations.
