Frequently asked questions

Ordering wallpaper is not like ordering most things, and the questions we get asked most are the ones nobody thinks to ask until it matters. Search below, or filter by topic. If your question is not here, write to us and we will add it.

Choosing

Can I get a sample before I order?

Color on a screen and color on your wall are different things, and every screen is calibrated differently. Order samples, tape them to the actual wall, and look at them in morning light and again at night before you commit to rolls.

How do I know how many rolls I need?

Use our roll calculator. It works by strips rather than by area, which is how installers actually calculate it, and it allows for pattern repeat by assuming a generous worst case. Treat the number as an estimate, add a spare roll on top, and if you would rather we check it, bring your measurements to the showroom.

Open the roll calculator
What is a pattern repeat and why does it matter?

The repeat is the vertical distance before the design starts again. On a patterned paper, each strip has to be cut long enough to line up with the one beside it, so some of every roll is trimmed off and wasted. A large repeat can mean an extra roll on the same wall. Plains and textures have no repeat at all.

Which wallpaper works in a bathroom or kitchen?

Look for a washable or scrubbable rating, and check the material. Vinyl handles humidity better than paper. In a bathroom with a shower and no extractor, no wallpaper is a good idea on the wet wall itself. Ask us and we will tell you honestly whether a design will survive the room.

Ordering

What is a dye lot and why do you keep mentioning it?

Wallpaper is printed in batches, and the color shifts slightly from one batch to the next. On the same wall, that difference is visible. Order every roll you need in one go, spare included, so the whole job comes from one lot. If you have to reorder later, contact us first and we will check whether we still hold your batch.

Should I order a spare roll?

We recommend it, and the calculator does not add one for you. A spare covers a mistake during installation and, years later, a repair after a leak or a knock. Buying it now costs one roll. Buying it in two years may mean a different dye lot and a wall that no longer matches.

Can I cancel or change an order?

Get in touch as soon as possible. Anything we hold in stock is usually straightforward. Special orders from Europe and murals printed to your measurements are made for you specifically, so once they are in production they cannot be changed. We will always tell you where your order stands.

Do you offer trade pricing?

Yes. Our trade program covers project pricing, a sample service for client presentations and delivery scheduled around your install date. It is open to interior designers, architects and contractors.

Delivery

How long does an order take?

Anything we hold at the showroom ships in one to two business days. Most European collections are brought in for your order and take two to three weeks, as do murals in a standard size. A mural printed to your exact measurements takes four to six weeks. We will tell you which applies before you order.

Shipping and delivery
Can I pick up in store?

Yes, from our San Juan showroom. It is free, it is the fastest option, and it is what we recommend for murals and large orders. Choose Pickup at checkout and wait for the email telling you the order is ready before you come by.

My package arrived damaged. What now?

Photograph the box before you open it, then photograph the contents, and send both to us. Do not throw away the packaging. With the photos we can file the carrier claim and get a replacement moving straight away.

Installing

Can I hang wallpaper myself?

Most people can. Everything we sell is non-woven, which means the paste goes on the wall and the paper goes up dry. It is far more forgiving than the old paste-the-paper method. Read the installation guide first, and give yourself a full afternoon rather than an hour.

Do I need to prepare the wall?

Yes, and this is where most jobs go wrong. Fill and sand any damage, prime the wall so it takes paste evenly, and let fresh plaster or paint cure fully. Wallpaper does not hide a bad wall. It shows it.

Do you install?

We do, with our own crew. Wallpaper, murals, curtains and upholstery are all installed by our team, quoted alongside the order. We also install material bought elsewhere, so if you already have rolls or curtains in hand, ask us for a quote on the labor only.

Can wallpaper be removed later?

Non-woven paper is strippable, which means it comes off the wall dry and in full strips, without steaming or scoring. It is one of the real advantages of the material, and it is why renters and people who redecorate often can use it without worry.

Cushions & throws

Are the cushions made locally?

Yes. Our cushions are cut and sewn at our atelier in Puerto Rico, in square, rectangular, ball and ojami shapes, in both indoor and outdoor fabrics.

Can I get a cushion in my own fabric?

In most cases, yes. Bring or send the fabric and we will tell you how much is needed for the size you want and what the turnaround looks like. Come by the showroom and we can work it out together.

How do I care for a throw?

Check the label first, since the fiber decides the method. Wool and alpaca are dry clean only as a rule. Air them rather than wash them where you can, and store them folded and dry, out of direct sun.

Still stuck?

Write to us or come by the showroom. These questions are easier to answer with the material in front of you, and there is no such thing as a question that is too basic.
